Character age: 160+
Canon: Marvel 616
Canon point: Current (Post X Lives X Deaths series)
History:
Wiki Entry Summarizing Over One and a Half Centuries of Mayhem.
Appearance:
Short, stocky, dark haired, blue-eyed muscle bear with outmoded facial hair and a penchant for cowboy hats. Typically dressed like a lumberjack or a cowboy. Frequently known to break the no shirt, no shoes no service rules. I'm partial to Adam Kubert's depictions.
Personality:

Ask Logan about himself, and you’ll probably get a terse, guarded and unsatisfying answer. Ask those who know him best, you’ll probably get confused. From innocent to animal, animal to man, and man to weapon, every chapter of Logan’s life reveals a man seeking purpose and redemption. His story mirrors the original anti-heroes; The sinner redeemed by his own misdeeds. The one to sacrifice his immortal soul to save others from circumstances that would strip them of innocence. The Jean Valjean of superheroes.

Logan’s recollection of his early years is spotty at best, but throughout his life he has lived nomadically. Pushed always onward by an animal instinct for self preservation, a human search for purpose, and a dogmatic need to forge his own code of personal recompense. The role of the nameless wander comes easily to him.

His journey has taken him more years and miles than most people will spend on Earth. From Europe to Japan to South America, he’s disappeared himself time and time again. Resurfacing as a samurai, solider, and civilian. Always reinventing himself in search of a balance between purpose and inner peace. No matter what he finds, no matter who becomes, Logan is always pulled back into the fray by what some may call circumstance and others may call habit. Left again and again to grapple with the same questions that plague him most: Does a life of brutality have a way of thrusting itself upon men who can bear it? Or is it inherent instinct that drives him to put his own violent nature to purpose? If peace is even attainable, what purpose does it have for a creature designed for war?

“The best there is at what he does,” could be a worthwhile commendation if what you do best is anything to be glorified. Instead, Logan wields his title like a warning to both those who try to love him and those out to destroy him. For the better part of his remembered life Logan has, unwittingly and otherwise, become a tool of destruction. A living weapon made dangerous and valuable to those with the capacity to control him. Naturally, that history of abuse always creates something more than his makers intend— a monster compelled to make amends for his brutal nature and a man clinging to the hope that the blades in his hands could also serve as a shield.

What keeps Logan going are the people who repeatedly prove him wrong about the world and himself. A handful of people who find strength in places he’s never been able to and those who rally their faith in him no matter what he’s done or continues to do give him a reason to keep trying to better himself despite being conflicted about his own ability to change.

At his worst, Logan is suspicious, vengeful, and savage. A berserker, blind to everything but bloodshed. A murderer who glorifies his body count, and values human life about as much as a cigarette— a hedonistic but brief pleasure. At his best he’s thoughtful, kind, patient, merciful, self-sacrificing, loyal to a fault and holds himself unworthy of even the smallest clemency.

Of all who have commented on Logan’s character, the diametric remarks of geniuses like McCoy and Stark at least present the axis on which he’s best judged; One part poster boy for the oldest struggles of the universal the human condition. One part complicated convolution of nature and nurture run amok. Emotional and psychological trauma simmering under the weight of experience. Strung together by the illusion of control.

In many ways, 200 years of his cyclical fight with vice and virtue has simply worn him down. The palpable apathy in Logan’s words can give the impression of a man who's given up. But there is no such thing as giving up for someone unable to end his own life. In his own words, his philosophies seem simple: Life is suffering. Morals are circumstantial. Ends justify means. There’s no God. No heaven. No promises. There’s only right now. But like the metal on his bones, that nihilism protects a softer truth; That his actions, however world weary, paint a portrait of an optimist. A protector. An idealist. A philosopher. And a man who’s sense of hope may prove more durable than he is.

What did they do to end up here?:

Logan has more than enough in his life to atone for to end up in a place like this. While, it could be said he's already paid his dues for so many of his misdeeds, Logan himself isn't the type to believe that and his penchant for killing continues even today after the dawn of the ambitious new mutant nation of Krakoa where "Kill no man" is the law of the land and one well heeded by most. As always, X-Force has been the black-ops exception to Xavier's pacifist ideals and Logan has always been placed at the helm of it.

Some specific items on his rap sheet include:

  • The murder of; his parents, Rose O'Hara, Silverfox, Mariko Yashida, Rachel Van Helsing, Jean Grey, Jean Paul Beaubier, over a half dozen of his own children and countless unnamed innocents.
  • The torture and brain washing of Frank Simpson.
  • The training of child soldiers including Natasha Romanoff in the Red Room.
  • His role in the creation of clones of himself being used as child soliders.
  • His past and ongoing work as a wetwork specialist for Team X, The Avengers, The X-Men, Alpha Flight, S.H.I.E.L.D and the clan Yashida.
  • His role in the Hope Summers and Evan Sabahnur death squads.
  • Powers / Abilities:
Mutant Physiology↳ Advanced Metabolism & Immune System: Logan's unique biology provides an accelerated healing factor, decelerated aging, superhuman strength, stamina, dexterity, metabolism and senses. In general, this means Logan heals instantly from minor injury, disease, and general environmental exposure. He is largely unhindered by toxicants like drugs, alcohol or poison. In great enough quantity common toxicants may have an effect, but his metabolism speeds up the rate of induction taking him from intoxicated to hangover within minutes. Substances known to effect him more acutely are only those created specifically to target his unique DNA. Logan's healing factor is powerful enough to overcome severe or mortal wounds, including the regrowth of limbs and organs, even restoring him from pronounced death or the decimation of all but a single cell. Severe injuries incur a variable amount of recovery time. Though Logan's immune system staves off injury and illness it does nothing to reduce pain sustained by either. Additionally, it's theorized that his own accelerated healing is the primary cause of his recurring issues with memory loss.

↳ Structural Phenotypic Traits: Logan's skeletal structure includes six retractable bone claws roughy the length of his forearms. At three in each arm, these claws release at will through channels along the palmar aponeurosis longitudinal fibres. His claws pierce the skin to extend between the knuckles on each hand. Even prior to his augmentation these could penetrate most flesh and many natural materials.

↳ Advanced Senses: Often compared to an animal, Logan's mutation is responsible for his acute senses and an inhuman capacity for animal empathy. However, his heightened sensory input can be used against him as it make him susceptible to attacks of sensory overload.

↳ Adamantium Augmentation: Experimentation left Logan's bones bonded with Adamantium Beta: A rare metal formed in the reaction between Adamantium and Logan's unique phenotypes. Adamantium Beta is capable of bonding directly to skeletal structures without inhibiting the living nature of the bone-matter. The Weapon X experiment is the only known usage of Adamantium Beta to date. As a result of this reaction and the formation of this compound inside the subject, it was discovered that Adamantium itself can regrow within Logan just as his natural bones can. When bonded with his claws these blades are capable of cutting through any solid material, with the known exception of Proto-Adamantium.
    Minor Telepathic Resistance
↳ Incidental Mental Defences: Logan occasionally proves himself resistant to telepathic probing from even accomplished telepaths. This could be attributed to psi-shields implanted by Charles Xavier, his training for any number of special ops, and the natural “mental scar tissue” left by his own regenerative capabilities.
    Learned Skills & Abilities
↳ Mercenary Skills: Trained as a samurai, tactician and spy Logan possesses an expertise in firearms, explosives, melee weapons and unarmed combat. Apart from his own claws, he is know to be especially skilled with the katana. As a long time covert operative, and combat specialist he's practiced many skills that would serve a mercenary, survivalist, solider, hunter and general handyman.

↳ Langauge Proficiency: A polyglot out of time and necessity, he is completely to conversationally fluent in many languages including English, Japanese, Russian, Mandarin, Cheyenne, Lakota, Latin, Spanish, French, German, Thai, Vietnamese, Farsi, Krakoan and DoopSpeak.
